A 3.1-magnitude earthquake rumbled Dec. 28 in central Kentucky, according to reports from the United States Geological Survey.

The tremor occurred at 16:41 local time on Sunday, with its epicentre located about nine miles north-west of Susanville in Lassen County, according to preliminary data from USGS

On Dec. 24, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Taiwan's southeastern coastal county of Taitung. That quake also shook buildings in Taipei. Taiwan is prone to earthquakes and is near the junction of two tectonic plates.

TOKYO -- Japan on Friday issued a tsunami advisory after a 6.7 magnitude earthquake shook the country’s northeast, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
