Protests have erupted after Renee Nicole Macklin Good, a mother of 3, was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Minneapolis on Thursday.

The shooting unfolded earlier Wednesday when a 37-year-old woman allegedly attempted to run over an ICE officer with her vehicle.

It’s a first step that alerts 13,000 guard members that they may need to be called upon in the event of an emergency.

Walz said the National Guard troops would help protect critical infrastructure in the city and help maintain public safety if the protests turn violent. However, he emphasized that he believes "peace will hold.
